Several Feared Trapped as Building Collapses in Blue Estate, Shauri Moyo

Several people are feared trapped after a partially demolished building collapsed at Blue Estate in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi. Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were collecting metal scraps inside the structure when the building gave way.

The building was located adjacent to structures being demolished on riparian land on Saturday, March 14. Authorities clarified that the collapsed building itself was not part of the demolition project. Kenya Red Cross confirmed the collapse and reported that rescue operations began immediately.

"A building has collapsed in the Blue Estate area of Shauri Moyo, adjacent to structures under demolition," Red Cross stated. "An unconfirmed number of people are feared trapped, and rescue efforts are ongoing." Emergency teams from the Kenya Red Cross, local police, and volunteers are working to retrieve the victims trapped under the rubble.

Unverified reports suggest that at least five people might be trapped, although the exact number remains unclear. Rescue teams are carefully removing debris to avoid further collapses while searching for survivors. Authorities have urged residents to maintain distance and allow rescuers to work efficiently.

The incident raises concerns about safety in areas near demolition sites, where structural instability poses a high risk. Residents and local officials are calling for stricter monitoring of demolition activities to prevent similar accidents in the future.

The Kenya Red Cross continues to coordinate with local authorities, and updates on casualties and survivors will be provided as soon as information becomes available. Families of the missing have been asked to report to nearby relief points to receive assistance and guidance.
