Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has explained why efforts to impeach President William Ruto cannot succeed at the moment. Speaking during an interview on the Mic Cheque Podcast, he said many Kenyans have questioned why opposition leaders continue criticizing the government without pursuing impeachment.

Sifuna argued that legal and political realities make such a move impossible under the current parliamentary arrangement. He maintained that the opposition lacks the numbers required to begin the process.

According to the senator, an impeachment motion requires significant support from members of the National Assembly. He noted that lawmakers must first secure the necessary threshold before Parliament can consider the proposal.

Sifuna said the opposition coalition currently lacks enough MPs to meet that requirement. He argued that without adequate numbers, any attempt would fail before reaching the next stage.

The senator stated that political strength inside Parliament determines whether an impeachment effort can progress. He said the current balance of power favors the ruling side and limits opposition options.

According to Sifuna, critics should understand the parliamentary process before demanding immediate action. He stressed that constitutional procedures require more than public dissatisfaction.

Sifuna also addressed claims that he spends too much time criticizing the government. He rejected accusations that his comments amount to constant complaints.

He said his role involves highlighting issues affecting the country and informing the public. According to the senator, he seeks to present facts rather than complain about government actions.

The Nairobi senator maintained that leaders should continue speaking about issues affecting citizens. He argued that raising concerns about governance remains an important responsibility.

Sifuna said accountability discussions should continue even when political limitations exist. He added that public debate helps citizens understand challenges facing the country.
