DJ Mo Hospitalised After Panga Attack Near Kenol

Popular Kenyan gospel entertainer Samuel Muraya is recovering in hospital after suspected robbers attacked him with pangas near Kenol on March 13. The incident occurred along the busy highway corridor near Kenol junction in Murang’a County while the DJ was travelling through the area.

His wife, gospel musician Linet Munyali, confirmed the incident through an emotional message shared online. She thanked God for protecting her husband and said she remained grateful that he survived the violent encounter.

According to her account, the attackers ambushed Muraya while he was near Kenol and threatened him with pangas before robbing him. The assailants reportedly managed to steal his phone before fleeing from the scene, leaving the DJ injured.

Size 8 said the incident was frightening but expressed relief that the attack did not claim her husband’s life. In her message, she publicly thanked God for safeguarding him during the dangerous encounter.

Videos circulating online showed Muraya receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack. Reports indicate that he suffered deep cuts on his arm caused by the panga-wielding attackers, although it remains unclear whether he sustained additional injuries.

DJ Mo remains one of the most recognised personalities in Kenya’s gospel entertainment industry. Over the years, he has played a key role in elevating gospel DJing into a respected profession capable of attracting audiences comparable to those of secular entertainment.

The entertainer gained prominence around 2010 and steadily built a reputation through energetic performances and popular gospel music mixes. His talent platform, System Unit, has also helped mentor young DJs and dancers, nurturing new performers within Kenya’s gospel entertainment scene.

Muraya further expanded his influence through his long-running role as resident DJ on the gospel show Crossover 101 on NTV Kenya between 2011 and 2021. The programme played a major role in promoting local gospel artists and providing upcoming musicians with a national platform to reach wider audiences across Kenya.
