Tuju Alleges Police Conducted Overnight Raid at Karen Property

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has alleged that dozens of police officers carried out a dramatic overnight raid at his property in Karen, Nairobi.

Tuju claimed that more than 50 officers stormed the Dari Business Park complex in the early hours of Saturday, March 14, at about 3am. According to him, the officers arrived in at least seven vehicles, several of them unmarked, before entering the compound and taking control of the premises.

He said the officers did not present any official documentation explaining the operation despite being questioned about the reasons for the raid.

According to Tuju, the officers claimed they were acting under instructions from senior authorities but did not disclose who had issued the orders. He alleged that the officers told him they were simply following directives from “above” and had no option but to carry out the operation.

Tuju further claimed that the officers forced their way into the compound before ordering employees working at a restaurant within the business complex to leave immediately.

He said the workers were pushed out of the premises as the officers secured the compound and locked themselves inside.

The former CS stated that the officers effectively took control of the property after the raid, leaving him and his staff unable to access parts of the complex.

The incident has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the operation and the authority under which the officers acted.

Police had not immediately issued an official statement explaining the alleged raid or confirming the claims made by Tuju at the time of reporting.
