Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has publicly asked for forgiveness from President William Ruto after arriving late to a church service held at A.I.C. Githumu in Kandara, Murang’a County.
Speaking during the event, Wamuchomba explained that her delay was caused by earlier commitments in her constituency, where she had been attending to local development matters. She told the congregation that she did not intend to miss the service or show any disrespect to the President and other leaders present.
“I ask for forgiveness for arriving late. I had engagements in my constituency, but I made sure to come and join you in worship,” she said, drawing attention from the congregation.
Her remarks come at a time when she continues to attract political attention due to her shifting political alliances. Wamuchomba was initially part of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the ruling party led by President Ruto. However, she later broke ranks with the party and aligned herself with opposition political formations associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. She has since made a political return closer to the government side, signaling a complex and evolving political journey.
Her presence at the event alongside President Ruto and other senior government officials was seen as a significant moment, especially given her recent political transitions. The service at A.I.C. Githumu brought together leaders from across the political divide, reflecting both unity in worship and the ongoing dynamics in Kenya’s political landscape.
President Ruto’s church visits continue to serve as platforms for both spiritual engagement and political interaction with leaders and citizens. The Murang’a event once again highlighted the blend of faith and politics that often characterizes such gatherings in the country.
