Police have intercepted a passenger bus carrying ammunition and suspected government stores along the Thika–Garissa Highway.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the discovery was made during a routine inspection at a multi-agency roadblock in Kanyonyoo.
According to the agency, officers flagged the vehicle for inspection before uncovering suspicious items in the luggage compartment.
Inside a metallic box, police recovered 19 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition, 116 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, two empty rifle magazines, and two machetes.
Officers also found a set of uniforms associated with the General Service Unit (GSU), including ceremonial attire, combat jackets, jungle green trousers, and a red beret.
Authorities indicated that the items had been booked as a parcel from Mokowe, but lacked sender details, raising concerns about their origin and intended use.
The bus driver and conductor were arrested at the scene and taken into custody alongside the vehicle and recovered items. They are currently being held at Kanyonyoo Police Station as investigations continue.
The DCI said detectives are pursuing leads to identify individuals behind the consignment and determine whether a wider network is involved. More arrests have not been ruled out.
The incident comes days after Douglas Kanja ordered the deployment of specialised police units along the Nairobi–Garissa route following increased security concerns in the area.
