President William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Education to begin hosting an annual State House event for winners of the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF) starting in 2027.

Ruto announced the directive during the 98th Kenya Music Festival State Concert at Bungoma State Lodge on August 14, 2026.

“Effective next year, the Ministry of Education must bring the winners of the annual Kenya Science and Engineering Fair to State House,” he directed.

Students to Receive National Recognition

According to the President, the initiative seeks to give national recognition to students who excel in science, technology and innovation competitions.

Ruto said students involved in scientific innovation should receive recognition similar to that given to young people who excel in music and drama festivals.

Push to Promote STEM Education

The announcement forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen STEM education and encourage innovation among learners across the country.

The directive also complements the administration’s ongoing efforts to connect education, creativity and talent development to Kenya’s long-term development agenda.

Education officials are now expected to develop the framework for selecting and hosting the annual science fair winners at State House beginning next year.
