The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has disclosed fresh details on the events leading up to the death of veteran doctor Job Obwaka.
According to investigators, the 83-year-old arrived in Kitengela shortly after midday and later shared a meal with Beatrice Wangare, who is assisting detectives with inquiries.
Police accounts indicate that after the meal, the doctor requested water. Wangare reportedly told officers that shortly after taking a few sips, he began to feel weak, became drowsy, and developed breathing difficulties.
Authorities said the doctor had travelled to Kitengela for what is believed to have been a business-related meeting. He later collapsed while in Wangare’s company and was rushed to hospital, where medical personnel confirmed he was dead on arrival.
Investigators noted that the doctor had a history of medical conditions, although the exact cause of death has not yet been established. A postmortem examination is expected to provide further clarity.
Police also explained that Wangare used the doctor’s phone after his condition worsened to contact his family members and close associates to inform them of the situation. A neighbour is said to have assisted in arranging transport to the hospital.
Detectives from Kilimani Police Station have taken Wangare into custody as a person of interest as investigations continue. Authorities confirmed that she is cooperating with investigators, while officers examine her residence and gather additional statements.
Officials say more details will be released once forensic analysis and the postmortem report are completed.
