Big Blow to Ruto as Another Politician Dumps UDA and Joins DCP

Political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to reshape Kenya’s landscape, with leaders shifting parties in pursuit of viable tickets and influence.

Former UDA politician and nominated Nairobi Senator Millicent Omanga has officially joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), a party associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Her move signals a strategic break from the ruling party as internal competition for nominations intensifies.

Omanga was sworn in at the party’s Nairobi headquarters, marking her formal alignment with Gachagua’s growing political camp.

The shift comes at a time when emerging factions are positioning themselves to challenge established power structures ahead of 2027.

She is now setting her sights on the Nairobi Woman Representative seat, a race expected to attract high-profile contenders.

Her entry adds weight to the contest, given her visibility, grassroots mobilization experience, and strong online presence.

Reactions online have been mixed but predictable. Supporters argue the move reflects political courage and independence, while critics see it as opportunistic—a calculated attempt to secure a ticket where competition may be less intense.

That criticism isn’t baseless. Kenyan politics often revolves around winnability, not ideology, and this move fits that pattern.

What matters now is execution. Party hopping alone doesn’t win elections—structure, voter connection, and credibility do.

If Omanga fails to build a solid ground network beyond social media influence, this shift will mean nothing. But if she leverages DCP effectively, she could become a serious contender in Nairobi’s evolving political battlefield.
