Residents have been urged to remain alert as changing weather patterns raise the likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms across several parts of the country.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that the storms could bring heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds—conditions likely to disrupt travel, outdoor activities, and local operations.
Areas expected to receive enhanced rainfall in March include the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, Southeastern lowlands, and parts of Northeastern Kenya. Counties within these regions should prepare for intense downpours, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.
In an update shared via its official Facebook page, Kenya Met indicated that sunny intervals will dominate earlier in the day before giving way to storms later. The agency has also directed the public to detailed county forecasts provided in the post’s comment section.
Kenyans are advised to monitor official updates closely and take necessary precautions, including planning travel early, avoiding open fields during storms, and staying clear of flood-prone areas.
While much of the country will experience periods of sunshine, the risk of sudden thunderstorms remains high. Staying informed through official channels will be critical in minimizing disruptions and ensuring safety.
