A new twist has emerged in the investigation into the murder of psychiatrist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso after detectives reportedly linked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to key suspects in the case.

Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin said investigators had established that Gachagua communicated with one of the suspects arrested over the killing.

He also claimed that the former Deputy President had been in contact with a boda boda rider allegedly connected to the shooting.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, August 7, Amin questioned why a politician would communicate with individuals linked to an active murder investigation.

He suggested that such contact could interfere with efforts to establish what happened.

“Gachagua was in communication with one of the suspects in the Dr Mutiso murder. Gachagua was also in communication with the boda boda rider,” Amin said.

The DCI boss further claimed that some suspects arrested the previous evening had been attempting to flee the country.

According to him, detectives intercepted them before they could cross the border.

Amin said investigators were racing against time to apprehend individuals suspected of involvement in the killing.

He indicated that the attempted escape added another layer to the ongoing investigation.

The DCI has not publicly established that Gachagua participated in planning or executing the murder. His alleged communication with suspects therefore remains a matter under investigation.

The latest claims have introduced a political dimension to the case as detectives continue tracing the people behind Dr Mutiso's killing.

Investigators are expected to examine communication records and other evidence as they establish the nature of the alleged contacts.

Gachagua had not publicly responded to Amin's claims at the time of publication. The investigation remains active as detectives pursue additional suspects and seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder.
