Karua Recalls Final Moments With Father
Karua said she had travelled to Kirinyaga earlier on Sunday to visit her father and spend time with him. Together with her siblings, she sang his favourite gospel hymn before leaving, without knowing that it would be their final time together.
The former Cabinet Minister said the news of his death was received while she was travelling back to Nairobi. She described receiving the news as one of the most difficult moments she has experienced.
Karua said her father's final moments with the family had become a treasured memory despite the pain of losing him. She expressed gratitude that the family had been given an opportunity to sit beside him and share those final moments.
Jackson Karua Remembered as a Teacher
Karua remembered her father as one of her strongest supporters throughout her life and career. His encouragement was said to have remained constant from her school years through her legal career and subsequent years in public service.
He was also remembered as a principled teacher who placed strong importance on education, character and integrity. To his children, however, he was primarily remembered as a loving, generous and dependable father.
Karua said her father had passed on values that would continue to guide his children and grandchildren. His death was described as a major loss to the family, relatives and the many people whose lives were touched through his work.
Leaders Send Condolences
Messages of condolence have been sent to Karua and her family following the death. President William Ruto described the late Jackson Karua as a dedicated public servant whose teaching touched several generations.
Other leaders who sent messages included former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Attorney General Justin Muturi. Their messages were joined by other political figures who expressed sympathy and wished the family strength during the mourning period.
The family is expected to announce details of the burial arrangements at a later date. Karua and her family are now mourning the loss of a father whose influence was remembered as having extended well beyond his immediate family.
