DCI Director Mohamed Amin said investigators believe the inspector connected the alleged financiers to the suspected hitmen. He spoke during a press briefing at Magereza House on Friday, August 7.
Inspector's Gun Linked to Killing
According to Amin, the inspector serves at Nderi Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station. Investigators say ballistic tests linked his firearm to the weapon used during the fatal shooting.
The firearm was recovered after detectives arrested another police officer suspected of being the shooter. Investigators are now searching for the inspector, who remains at large.
Land Dispute at Centre of Investigation
Amin said detectives believe a long-running land dispute motivated the killing. He added that investigators are pursuing other suspects who allegedly planned or facilitated the attack.
“Investigations have established that the elimination of Dr Mutiso was driven by a longstanding land civil dispute,” Amin said.
The DCI director said the investigation has uncovered links between the alleged financiers and individuals who carried out the shooting.
Two Suspects Arrested
The DCI has arrested two suspects over the killing, including a police officer. Investigators say evidence placed the officer at the scene when the shooting occurred.
The officer also faces scrutiny over shots reportedly fired during the attack. Detectives are continuing to examine the evidence as they pursue other people suspected of involvement.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the other suspects being pursued. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish the full chain of events behind Dr Mutiso's death.
