The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has announced a nationwide boycott of court proceedings on Wednesday, July 22, while declaring an indefinite boycott of selected courts over concerns about alleged judicial misconduct.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 17, the society said the decision followed growing frustration over what it described as the failure to adequately address complaints against some judicial officers.
Lawyers to Skip Court Sessions
LSK said advocates across the country will stay away from court proceedings on the scheduled day as part of efforts to push for greater accountability within the Judiciary.
The society also announced an indefinite boycott of specific courts, although it indicated that further details would be communicated to members.
Cites Unresolved Complaints
According to LSK, numerous complaints involving alleged malpractice by some judges have not been addressed satisfactorily despite being raised through the appropriate channels.
The lawyers' body argued that the continued delay in resolving the complaints has undermined confidence in the administration of justice.
The planned boycott is expected to disrupt court operations across the country, with litigants and other court users likely to experience delays as advocates stay away from proceedings.
