The Kenya National Examinations Council has opened applications for teachers seeking examiner training for national examinations. Successful applicants will later help mark Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment papers.

Teachers selected for the programme must pay a training fee of KSh10,500 after receiving official notification. KNEC said shortlisted applicants will receive the communication through text messages and the examiners' application portal.

KNEC Seeks Examiners Across Several Subjects

The council is recruiting examiners for several subjects taught under the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment programme. Available subjects include English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Agriculture, Social Studies, and Christian Religious Education.

Other KJSEA vacancies cover Creative Arts, Sports, Pre-Technical Studies, and selected Special Needs Education papers. KNEC also announced examiner opportunities for several Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education subjects.

KCSE applicants can apply for vacancies in Kiswahili, Biology Practical, Islamic Religious Education, Computer Studies, French, German, Arabic, and Special Needs Education papers. The council said recruitment will depend on available examiner requirements across different subject areas.

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

KNEC requires applicants to teach or tutor the subject they intend to examine during national assessments. Candidates must also hold registration or employment under the Teachers Service Commission or the Public Service Commission.

Applicants should possess at least a diploma in education and three years of teaching experience. They must also receive recommendations from their heads of institutions before submitting applications.

The council requires interested teachers to remain below fifty years of age during the recruitment exercise. Applicants should also have no active disciplinary case or interdiction from their employer.

How Interested Teachers Can Apply

Teachers should submit applications through the KNEC Examiners' Portal using their existing CP2 accounts. Those without accounts should first register before selecting available examiner training vacancies.

KNEC said only applicants meeting all requirements and uploading the necessary documents will qualify for shortlisting. Successful candidates will complete the required training before joining the national examiner pool.

Successful Trainees Will Mark National Examinations

Teachers who complete the training successfully may receive appointments to mark KCSE and KJSEA examination papers. KNEC said deployment will depend on staffing requirements during each examination cycle.

The recruitment follows the recent release of KSh1.5 billion for teachers who marked the 2025 national examinations. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed that examiners had already received the payments through their bank accounts.
