Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has accused Isaac Mutuma of attempting to frustrate his political visit to Meru County.
Speaking during a rally in Maili Tatu on Friday, June 5, Matiang'i claimed that youths were mobilised to block roads leading to Meru Town ahead of his tour.
The former CS alleged that the actions were intended to prevent his convoy from reaching parts of the county. He criticized the reported road blockades, arguing that leaders should focus on addressing residents' needs rather than engaging in political confrontations.
Matiang'i further accused the governor of failing to demonstrate proper leadership, saying public officials should prioritize development and service delivery.
During the rally, he thanked his supporters and local residents who helped clear the way after groups of youths reportedly attempted to interfere with his movement.
The presidential hopeful also used the event to campaign for Peter Munya, expressing support for the former Meru governor's political ambitions.
Matiang'i said he would work closely with Munya if elected, adding that they would focus on issues affecting residents, including insecurity, cattle theft, and challenges facing the miraa sector.
He urged voters to support leaders committed to solving local problems and improving livelihoods.
The former Interior CS also spoke against political intolerance, calling on leaders and their supporters to respect differing opinions and allow opponents to conduct their activities peacefully.
His remarks came as political activity continues to intensify in several parts of the country ahead of the next General Election.
