President William Ruto has appointed gospel musician Paul Waiganjo as an advisor on development matters under the Office of the President.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano announced the appointment on Sunday, June 7, during a church service in Ol-Kalou, Nyandarua County. Miano confirmed that Waiganjo will work from State House, providing strategic guidance on national development initiatives.

The move follows Waiganjo’s shift from the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He had initially sought the Ol-Kalou parliamentary seat but lost the DCP party primaries on May 9 to Sammy Kamau Ngotho, receiving 4,978 votes against Ngotho’s 12,957.

After the primaries, Waiganjo backed UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyaga in the upcoming July 16 Ol-Kalou by-election. The seat became vacant following the passing of three-term MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026, due to cancer.

As Development Affairs advisor, Waiganjo will guide the president on policy and grassroots strategies, aiming to align government programs with local needs. He will also help improve public service delivery and support sustainable growth initiatives across Kenya.

This appointment marks a notable shift for the gospel artist, moving from political aspirant to a key advisory role in national development.
