Residents in parts of Bungoma and Kisii counties should prepare for planned power interruptions on Saturday, June 6, after Kenya Power announced maintenance works on its electricity network.
In a notice issued on Friday, June 5, the utility company said the scheduled outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the affected areas.
In Bungoma County, customers in Mwangale, Mukulima, Maeni, Kapsokwony, Matili, Makeshe, Kamusinga, Namorio, and Kimilili Market will be affected. Electricity supply will also be interrupted in Kimilili Friends Girls, Mulima Market, and neighbouring areas during the maintenance period.
Meanwhile, several locations in Kisii County will also remain without power throughout the day. The affected areas include Nyangweta, Etago, Ekona, Kenyenya Primary School, Nyangweta SDA Secondary School, Etago Market, Nyansembe, Nyakeyo, and Suguta.
Other locations expected to experience the outage include Moticho, Engou, Nyabera, Nyamaiya, Mogenda, Ochodororo, Maroon, and surrounding areas.
Kenya Power advised customers in the listed regions to plan ahead and take necessary precautions before the interruption begins. The company stated that normal electricity supply will resume once the scheduled maintenance works are completed.
The announcement comes as authorities continue to crack down on electricity vandalism and illegal interference with power infrastructure.
In a recent case, a court in Ndhiwa convicted a man for unlawfully tampering with electricity equipment and disconnecting a customer's power supply. The offender received a ten-year prison sentence or an alternative fine of Ksh5 million.
Another suspect was also sentenced by the same court after investigators found him with transformer oil believed to have originated from vandalised electricity equipment.
Kenya Power has repeatedly warned that vandalism and illegal handling of power infrastructure remain criminal offences that attract severe penalties under the law.
