Purity Wangui Ngirici has been dismissed from her position as Director and Chairperson of the Board of Kenya Seed Company Limited. The decision came just a day after she publicly exited the United Democratic Alliance.

In a letter dated April 30, 2026, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi ordered her immediate removal from the board. The directive took effect without delay, ending her tenure at the state-owned firm.

Ngirici’s removal has attracted political attention due to its timing. She had only recently announced her departure from UDA, a move that signaled a shift in her political alignment.

The Kenya Seed Company Limited board plays a key role in overseeing governance and strategic operations of the national seed production agency. The leadership change now opens space for new appointments by the National Treasury.

Ngirici has in recent years remained a notable political figure in Kirinyaga County, where she previously served as Woman Representative. Her latest exit from a government-linked role adds to ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections.

The National Treasury has not provided further details on the reasons behind her removal beyond the formal directive. The move is expected to trigger political debate given her recent public political statements and shifting alliances.
