Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Irungu Nyakera has formally parted ways with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), marking a significant political shift within circles associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Nyakera has now returned to the Farmers Party after months of growing disagreement within the DCP leadership.

Sources close to the developments indicate that frustrations had been building over the party’s failure to publicly affirm Nyakera’s position despite his sustained efforts to popularize his Nairobi political agenda under the DCP banner.

His visibility campaign, which had intensified in recent months, reportedly lacked the institutional support he expected from senior party officials.

The decision to reunite with the Farmers Party is being viewed by analysts as a calculated political move aimed at rebuilding stability ahead of Nairobi’s next political contest.

Nyakera previously held influence within the party before aligning himself with Gachagua-linked political formations.

Political observers say the latest move highlights the changing nature of alliances within Nairobi politics, where parties continue to reorganize in preparation for future elections.

The capital remains one of the country’s most competitive political battlegrounds, forcing aspirants to constantly reassess strategy, support systems, and grassroots influence.

Neither Nyakera nor officials from DCP have publicly offered detailed explanations regarding the separation. However, the development has already triggered fresh debate over internal cohesion within emerging political outfits associated with Gachagua’s allies.
