Newly appointed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Catherine Omanyo has publicly declared her exhaustion, giving Kenyans a glimpse into the pressures accompanying her new role.

Recently while addressing supporters, Omanyo, who also serves as Busia Woman Representative, raised an orange ODM cap and stated firmly: “I am tired.”

She revealed the heavy toll the position has taken on her, particularly the constant challenges of navigating her new responsibilities at the helm of Kenya’s largest opposition party.

“I am the Secretary General of ODM and I am tired of being reduced by media stations to discussing one individual,” Omanyo said, signaling deep frustration with how her leadership is being framed in public discourse.

Her remarks come barely three months after she was appointed Acting Secretary General following the contentious removal of her predecessor, Edwin Sifuna.

The party has been grappling with internal divisions, leadership wrangles, and the demanding task of rebuilding unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Political analysts suggest Omanyo’s outburst reflects the intense scrutiny and behind-the-scenes battles that come with steering a major political outfit like ODM.

As the party seeks to reposition itself, the new SG appears determined to shift focus from personal and factional disputes toward broader organizational goals.
