New details have emerged regarding the final moments of veteran gynaecologist Job Obwaka following an affidavit sworn by Beatrice Wangari, who is currently assisting investigators.
According to the affidavit, Wangari stated that she first met Dr Obwaka in 2015. At the time, he was 73 years old, while she was 35. The two are said to have maintained contact over the years leading up to the day of the incident.
Wangari told investigators that on the day in question, the doctor visited her at her apartment in Kitengela. She explained that they spent time together and shared a meal before he later became unwell.
In her account, she stated that after some time, she found him lying on the bed and unresponsive. Alarmed by the situation, she sought help from a neighbour, and together they arranged for emergency transport.
The two reportedly called for an ambulance, which rushed the 83-year-old doctor to Nairobi Hospital. Medical personnel at the facility later confirmed that he was pronounced dead on arrival.
At the time of his death, Dr Obwaka was 83 years old, while Wangari was 45. Authorities have indicated that he had a history of medical conditions, although the exact cause of death has not yet been established.
Wangari remains in police custody as a person of interest as detectives continue to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the incident. Investigators are expected to rely on forensic examinations and postmortem results to determine the cause of death and establish whether any other factors may have contributed.
Police have stated that further details will be released once the ongoing investigations are complete and findings from medical examinations are made available.
