Passengers traveling from Bondo to Nairobi were left stranded in Nakuru after an Ena Coach bus, registration number KDD..., was confiscated by auctioneers in a dramatic mid-journey incident linked to an alleged outstanding debt.
The incident unfolded shortly after the bus arrived in Nakuru town, where the vehicle was suddenly intercepted by a team of auctioneers who claimed they were enforcing a court order.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was flagged down and ordered to stop, before being officially repossessed at the roadside.
Passengers, many of whom had been on a long and tiring journey from western Kenya, were caught off guard as the situation escalated. They were instructed to disembark with their luggage, leaving them stranded in an unfamiliar town without prior warning or alternative transport arrangements.
Some passengers expressed frustration over the disruption, saying they had paid for a direct trip to Nairobi and were not informed of any issues involving the bus company. Others were seen scrambling to find connecting transport as confusion spread at the scene.
The incident caused a temporary disruption in travel services along the busy Bondo–Nairobi route, raising concerns about passenger safety and the reliability of long-distance bus operators.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the repossession, while Ena Coach has not publicly responded to the incident.
This latest incident has sparked renewed debate over the financial stability of transport companies and the need for stronger safeguards to protect passengers during unforeseen business disputes.
