Tension and drama unfolded in Kuresoi, Nakuru County, after Governor Susan Kihika was reportedly evacuated by security officers to a waiting helicopter following chaotic scenes at an empowerment event.

The event, which had attracted hundreds of residents, was initially marked by chants of “Tutam” from sections of the crowd before the distribution of empowerment funds.

However, moments after the money was issued, the mood dramatically changed as loud “WANTAM” chants erupted across the gathering.

Witnesses at the scene claimed that some residents shouted that the money being distributed belonged to taxpayers and not personal donations from politicians.

The chants quickly intensified, forcing security officers to move swiftly and escort the governor away from the venue for her safety.

Videos circulating online showed a visibly tense atmosphere as crowds shouted political slogans while security personnel struggled to maintain order near the chopper landing area.

The incident comes at a time when political temperatures across the country continue to rise ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the “WANTAM” slogan increasingly being used by opposition supporters to criticize leaders allied to President William Ruto.

Despite the chaotic scenes, no injuries or arrests were immediately reported. Supporters of Governor Kihika defended the empowerment program, saying the initiative was aimed at supporting local groups and small-scale traders in the area.
