Oburu Oginga has resurfaced after a two-week absence from the public eye, with the ODM party confirming that he is in good health and currently within the country.
In a video shared on social media on Friday, May 8, Oburu addressed speculation about his whereabouts, saying he has been spending time in Kisumu engaging in leisure activities.
“Thank you for your concerns about my whereabouts. I am here in Kisumu, up and about, playing golf, and I want to wish all of you a very happy weekend,” he said.
The clarification came amid growing online speculation about his health and travel status. However, ODM officials dismissed the reports as misleading.
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale told journalists in Nairobi that Oburu has not travelled abroad for treatment and remains fully active in his duties within the party.
Etale said the veteran politician is expected to make a public appearance on Saturday and continues to play an active role in guiding ODM’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“We have seen some local dailies questioning the whereabouts of our party leader. I have his permission to state that he is okay and fine,” Etale said.
The party further dismissed claims that Oburu is incapacitated or unable to discharge his responsibilities, insisting that he remains engaged in party affairs and leadership functions.
The clarification appears aimed at calming speculation that had circulated widely on social media during his brief absence from public engagements.
