Four individuals convicted in the robbery with violence case linked to the murder of former Kabete MP George Muchai have been sentenced to death, while two others received 10-year prison terms.

The ruling was delivered by Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts after the court found all six accused guilty on multiple counts, including robbery with violence and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

According to court proceedings, the convicts were involved in the fatal attack that led to the deaths of Muchai, his two bodyguards, and his driver during a nighttime ambush in Nairobi in February 2015. Prosecutors told the court that the gang, armed with firearms, targeted the former lawmaker along Kenyatta Avenue in the Central Business District.

In his judgment, Onyina ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence proving that the four main convicts played a central role in the violent robbery, meeting the legal threshold for a death sentence.

The two remaining accused were each sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, with the court noting that evidence did not directly place them at the scene.

Muchai’s killing remains one of Kenya’s most high-profile political assassinations, with the case taking years to conclude.
