Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba was arrested on Wednesday afternoon at the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, following a dramatic confrontation with security officers.
According to reports, Orwoba had attempted to access the Senate chambers while holding court documents, insisting that Parliament had already been served. Videos circulating online showed her demanding entry as police officers maintained a heavy presence at the premises. She was later escorted away by female officers.
The arrest comes amid an ongoing dispute between Orwoba and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which had sought to expel her from the party and revoke her Senate nomination.
Earlier this month, the High Court of Kenya dealt a setback to UDA in the case. In a ruling delivered by Lawrence Mugambi, the court directed the party to comply with orders from the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), which had instructed that Orwoba be reinstated both to the party and to her Senate position.
The unfolding events highlight a deepening legal and political standoff between the former senator and her party leadership. Her attempt to access Parliament suggests she was acting on the basis of the court’s directive, though it remains unclear why authorities blocked her entry.
More details are expected to emerge as the situation develops, including whether Orwoba will face formal charges or be released without further action.
