A close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru was caught up in a chaotic hotel siege in Ol Kalou.
Dr. Peter Mbae shared the claims in a Facebook post late at night, alleging that the DCP strategic team came under attack at Royal Gardens Hotel in Ol Kalou.
According to Mbae, police deployed teargas and fired gunshots as the situation unfolded. He further alleged that officers blocked people who attempted to rescue DCP members trapped inside the hotel and claimed that "government goons" had taken control of the premises.
Mbae said DCP candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru remained inside the hotel during the confrontation. He also alleged that a DCP campaign coordinator had a mobile phone forcibly taken during the incident.
The claims emerged as political tensions surrounding the Ol Kalou by-election continued to escalate, with rival camps trading accusations over alleged intimidation and violence.
Earlier, Gachagua accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of deploying a "killer squad" to disrupt DCP campaigns, alleging that party supporters had been abducted and assaulted.
Murkomen dismissed the allegations, describing them as "juvenile gimmicks" and "reverse psychology." He warned that anyone involved in violence would face the full force of the law.
The allegations made by Mbae had not been independently verified at the time of publication, and police had not issued an official statement on the reported incident.
