The political scene in Western Kenya has taken a major turn.
Alex Khamasi, the National Coordinator of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has resigned and rejoined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
About 200 members followed him, marking a big win for the ruling party.
The group was welcomed in a high-profile event by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar and Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka.
Khamasi said his decision came after growing frustration.
Despite helping DCP win the Kisa East Ward by-election earlier this year, he felt the party had no clear direction.
"I don't know what my boss (Malala) is doing in there, there is no money to facilitate our activities and I have had to rely on my own pocket to do the party activities," Khamasi said.
He added on social media that leaving was a collective choice to exit an "agendaless DCP outfit" and return to their political home.
Khamasi played a key role in DCP, coordinating activities across all 47 counties. His exit comes amid internal disputes and public attacks within the party.
"There was nothing personal between him and Mr. Malala," Khamasi clarified.
