ODM party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has been hospitalised in Nairobi, with his family reportedly considering taking him to the United Kingdom for specialised medical treatment.

Sources within ODM confirmed that the veteran politician has been receiving treatment, although the exact cause of his hospitalisation has not been disclosed.

The development has raised concern among political leaders and supporters, particularly because of Oburu’s recent absence from public engagements.

According to reports, access to the politician has been restricted, with only close family members allowed to visit him. Several political leaders who reportedly attempted to see him were turned away.

Family Weighs UK Treatment

People familiar with the situation say Oburu’s family is considering flying him to the UK for specialised care.

No details have been provided on the type of treatment he may require or whether arrangements for the trip have been finalised.

Reports indicate that the senator had earlier been admitted to hospital on August 22 before being discharged four days later. He was subsequently readmitted on August 26 after his condition required further medical attention.

A close relative reportedly said on Tuesday that Oburu was stabilising.

The veteran politician remains a key figure in ODM and assumed the party’s leadership following the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Neither Oburu’s family nor ODM has issued a detailed official statement explaining his condition.
