President Ruto Visits Kapsabet School for the Deaf After Tragic Accident

President William Ruto on Thursday, March 12, made a surprise visit to the Kapsabet School for the Deaf following a tragic accident.

A septic tank collapsed within the school compound, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to several others. The incident shocked the school community and the wider Nandi County residents.

Ruto toured the institution accompanied by Stephen Sang, the Nandi Governor, and Julius Melly, Tinderet MP, to assess the situation and offer support.

He met with school administrators, staff, and students to understand the circumstances that led to the accident. The leaders also consoled families affected by the tragedy.

Authorities confirmed that one learner died, while ten others sustained injuries after falling into the septic tank.

Emergency responders rushed the injured students to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, where they are receiving treatment and undergoing close observation. The hospital staff reported that the injured children are stable, though some remain under intensive care.

During his visit, President Ruto expressed deep sympathy to the school community. He acknowledged the difficulties the institution has faced over the years, including infrastructure challenges.

Ruto pledged that the government would provide support to help rebuild the affected areas and improve safety measures within the school compound.

The president also encouraged the school staff and students to remain resilient during this difficult period. He called for increased attention to safety in schools across the country to prevent similar accidents.

His visit was aimed at reassuring the school community that the government stands ready to support them during the recovery process.

The tragic incident has highlighted the importance of regular inspections and safety measures in educational institutions.

Local authorities have promised to work with the Ministry of Education to strengthen preventive measures and ensure student safety.
