DCP Deputy Party Leader Accused of Plot Against Gachagua Allies

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina accused DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala of targeting Gachagua allies. She claimed Malala met some MCAs allied to Governor Anne Waiguru at a hotel in Kenol on Wednesday night.

Maina alleged the meeting aimed to form a splinter group opposing Gachagua supporters in Kirinyaga County. She added the gathering was organised secretly without public knowledge.

The lawmaker said Malala facilitated attending MCAs with Ksh20,000 each. She claimed the funds came from people wanting to derail the united alternative government’s agenda.

Maina said she raised her concerns privately with Malala. She decided to make the allegations public after the Wednesday night meeting.

“You are aware we had private discussions, but you crossed the rubicon,” Maina warned Malala publicly. She also dared him to a face-off over the issue.

“Bring it on, you shall face me where the rubber meets the road,” she added. She warned she would treat him with contempt going forward.

Malala joined Gachagua’s camp after being removed as UDA Party Secretary General in 2024. He was later appointed Interim Deputy Party Leader following the DCP launch in May 2025.

Maina’s accusations come weeks after Gachagua dismissed reports claiming Malala had defected from DCP. He described the rumors as fake news spread by President Ruto’s allies.

The former deputy president praised Malala as a bold and principled leader. He noted Malala had recently fallen ill, asking permission to rest before returning to party duties.

The accusations have intensified tensions in Kirinyaga politics. They signal a possible showdown between local factions aligned to national leaders.
