KNEC Opens 2026 KJSEA Candidate Registration

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has clarified that registration for the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) is now officially open. In a notice released on Tuesday, March 3, the council said the KJSEA registration opening followed the earlier registration for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessments (KPSEA), which began on February 16.

KNEC urged school principals to avoid delaying the process to prevent last-minute rushes and errors during candidate registration.

School heads are required to complete the registration through the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.

The portal serves multiple purposes, including downloading assessment materials and uploading candidate scores for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). KNEC clarified that KCSE candidates will use a separate registration portal as the examination follows a different curriculum system.

Principals can access the CBA portal via https://cba.knec.ac.ke/ using their centre code as both the username and password. Before signing in, they must confirm the data protection checkbox. KNEC has added an additional security measure requiring SMS One-Time-Password (OTP) verification.

Principals will update their credentials, including their name and mobile number, after which a one-time secret code will be sent to the registered phone number. Once verified, principals will access the “Authorised Applications” dashboard, select “Registration & SBAs,” and begin registering their candidates.

KNEC also highlighted that early registration ensures schools can correct any errors promptly and avoid challenges that arise during high-traffic periods on the portal.

The council will introduce SMS verification codes in April to enable parents to confirm whether their children have successfully registered, enhancing transparency and accuracy.

The 2026 KJSEA registration process marks a continuation of KNEC’s efforts to streamline candidate registration and reporting. Principals are strongly encouraged to follow the portal instructions carefully, complete registrations early, and maintain updated contact information for smooth communication.

By taking timely action, schools will ensure all candidates are registered correctly, paving the way for a smooth assessment process under the Competency-Based Curriculum.
