IEBC Announces Exact Date For Emurua Dikirr By-election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that a by-election for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Johana Ng'eno, who served as the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency. Ng’eno died on February 28, 2026, after the helicopter he was travelling in crashed in the Chepkiep area of Nandi County.

The accident claimed the lives of all six people on board, including the pilot and several passengers accompanying the legislator.

Ng’eno had represented the constituency since 2013 and was serving his third term in the National Assembly of Kenya at the time of his death. His passing triggered the constitutional process that requires a by-election to fill a vacant parliamentary seat.

Following the declaration of the vacancy, the IEBC began preparations for the electoral exercise to allow voters in Emurua Dikirr to elect a new representative.

The commission said the by-election will enable residents of the constituency to choose a leader who will complete the remaining term in Parliament.

Political parties are now expected to begin internal processes to identify and nominate candidates ahead of the vote, setting the stage for a fresh contest for the seat once held by the late Ng’eno.
