In a statement shared on X, Ahmednassir argued that an early decision would give the Kenya Kwanza coalition enough time to reorganize its strategy and strengthen its chances of retaining power.
Lawyer Wants Early Political Decision
Ahmednassir said he does not expect President Ruto to remove Kindiki from the presidential ticket. Instead, he believes the Deputy President should make the decision himself for the benefit of the ruling coalition.
The senior lawyer suggested that any changes made before October 2026 would allow the coalition to rebuild alliances and reconnect with voters before the election period begins.
He warned that delaying such a decision could make it harder for the government to recover politically.
Ol Kalou Loss Sparks Fresh Debate
The remarks come after UDA suffered defeat in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election. The loss attracted attention because it happened in the Mt Kenya region, which played a major role in President Ruto's 2022 victory.
Ahmednassir linked the outcome to what he described as changing political trends in the region. He argued that the ruling coalition should treat the result as a warning sign.
Kindiki Position Under Scrutiny
The lawyer claimed that Kindiki's continued presence on the ticket could weaken President Ruto's re-election campaign. He described the Deputy President's position as a possible challenge for the coalition ahead of 2027.
However, Kindiki has previously maintained that he remains Ruto's running mate and intends to support the President's re-election bid.
The Deputy President has defended the partnership, insisting that the Mt Kenya region remains committed to the current administration.
No Response From Ruto or Kindiki
President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki had not publicly responded to Ahmednassir's remarks at the time of publication.
The comments are expected to fuel further discussion over Kenya Kwanza's political strategy as parties and leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political realignments are expected to intensify as leaders evaluate their alliances and seek to strengthen their support bases across the country.
