Police officers have arrested comedian Eric Omondi in connection with investigations linked to recent fuel price demonstrations in Nairobi.
The arrest took place on Friday, June 5, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) during an operation involving detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and officers from the Nairobi Region Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB).
According to the DCI, investigators are examining allegations related to activities that occurred during the recent protests over fuel prices.
After the arrest, officers escorted Omondi to the DCI headquarters for questioning and further processing.
The investigative agency stated that the comedian is being investigated over offences allegedly committed during the demonstrations.
Authorities indicated that the arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into incidents linked to the protests, which attracted significant public attention in Nairobi.
The DCI said detectives are continuing with inquiries before the suspect is presented in court.
The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny of activities that occurred during the fuel-related demonstrations, with authorities pursuing individuals suspected of breaking the law during the protests.
Further details regarding the charges Omondi may face are expected to emerge once investigations are completed and court proceedings begin.
