Former Lands Minister Amos Kimunya has announced that he is stepping away from politics following his acquittal in a corruption case that lasted more than a decade.

Speaking after the court ruling, Kimunya described the decision as the end of a painful 12-year legal battle that had heavily affected both his personal and professional life. He maintained that the allegations against him were false and said the acquittal finally brought closure.

“It marks a culmination of 12 years of suffering for something we did not do. We are happy that the long journey has come to an end,” he said.

The former Kipipiri MP stated that he no longer intends to seek elective office, saying his time in politics has come to an end.

“I am free to pursue other pursuits in life, of course not politics anymore,” Kimunya said.

He explained that the prolonged court process had forced him to put aside other ambitions, including academic and mentorship work despite holding a doctorate and years of experience in public service.

According to Kimunya, he now plans to focus on teaching and guiding young professionals through mentorship and academic engagement. He said he hopes to spend more time in lecture halls sharing knowledge gained during his years in government and public administration.

“I would like now to mentor the young generation. You might find me in some lecture rooms using my doctorate and knowledge,” he said.

Kimunya added that appearing in court over the years made it difficult for him to comfortably engage in teaching, noting that students could question his credibility while the case was ongoing.

Reflecting on the acquittal, the former minister said the ruling should encourage Kenyans facing lengthy court battles to continue believing in the justice system. He expressed hope that truth and fairness would prevail for others seeking justice.
