Albert Ojwang’s family is now facing a new crisis as they struggle to survive following his death in police custody.
His father has come out publicly, saying the family has not had food for three days and is appealing to Kenyans for financial support.
Speaking with deep emotion, the father said the situation at home has become unbearable. He asked well-wishers across the country to help raise at least KSh 1 million to support the family, saying they are unable to meet basic needs such as food and daily expenses.
Albert Ojwang was a teacher and blogger who became widely known after his sudden death in police custody in June 2025. He had been arrested in Homa Bay over a social media post that allegedly touched on a senior police officer. He was then transferred to Nairobi and booked at Central Police Station.
However, just hours after his arrest, Ojwang was found dead inside the police cells. Police initially claimed that he had injured himself by hitting his head against a wall. That explanation was later challenged after a postmortem revealed serious injuries, including head trauma, neck compression, and multiple injuries across his body.
The case sparked public outrage across the country, with many Kenyans demanding justice and accountability. Several police officers were later arrested and charged in connection with his death, and the matter is still ongoing in court.
Since then, Ojwang’s family says life has drastically changed. They claim they have been left without a stable source of income, pushing them into extreme hardship. The father’s appeal highlights the growing pressure on the family as they continue to seek justice while also struggling to survive.
The case remains a key issue in national conversations about police conduct and accountability in Kenya.
