Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang'ata has shared his views on several leaders seen as potential contenders in the 2027 General Election, offering his perspective on their political standing and areas of strength.
Speaking on Sunday, the governor gave his assessment of key figures in the opposition, including Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang'i and Kalonzo Musyoka.
On Gachagua, Kang’ata noted that the former deputy president has experienced significant political growth in recent months. He linked this development to the events surrounding his removal from office, suggesting that the situation contributed to shaping his current political momentum.
“Riggy G has grown politically, and I believe strongly that one of the reasons he has grown politically is how he has been treated,” Kang’ata said.
Regarding Matiang’i, the Murang’a governor acknowledged his track record in public service, particularly during his tenure in government.
He pointed out that while the former Interior Cabinet Secretary has built a strong administrative profile, the political arena presents its own unique demands.
“Maybe the area he needs to work on is being a better politician,” he said.
Kang’ata also commented on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, highlighting his leadership style and public demeanor. He described Musyoka as calm and composed, noting that these qualities stand out in the country’s political environment.
“Musyoka has a certain mien that looks quite attractive being calm, composed,” Kang’ata stated.
He added that refining policy direction and agenda-setting could further strengthen Musyoka’s political positioning ahead of future contests.
The remarks come at a time when political alignments and strategies continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election, with various leaders positioning themselves across different regions of the country.

Talk of anybody else but not Rigathi Gachaghua. Gachaghua politics is based on tribalism and hatred which is not good for a national leader.
