The Ministry of Education has summoned all public secondary school principals for an emergency meeting. Officials want urgent discussions over rising student unrest across Kenya.
The virtual meeting will take place on Thursday, May 14, at 8am. Julius Bitok, the Basic Education Principal Secretary, will chair the session.
The ministry also directed regional and county education officers to attend the meeting. Sub-county directors must ensure all school principals participate fully.
According to a circular dated May 12, officials postponed the meeting from May 13. The ministry said it would share the meeting link before the session begins.
Authorities want school heads to discuss increasing cases of unrest in secondary schools nationwide. Several incidents recently disrupted learning activities across different counties.
Recent weeks have seen students staging strikes, protests, and night walkouts from schools. Some schools also reported fire incidents and property destruction.
The unrest has caused injuries, school closures, and interruptions to academic programs in several regions. Education officials now fear the situation could worsen without urgent intervention.
Authorities have not disclosed the exact number of schools affected during the recent disturbances. However, concern continues growing within the education sector.
