The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is seeking applications for two member positions. The roles will involve oversight of key functions, including managing payroll for teachers employed by TSC.
Successful candidates will also facilitate career progression and professional development. This includes appointments of head teachers and principals across the country.
Members will monitor the conduct and performance of teachers to ensure adherence to professional standards. They will also enforce compliance with regulations stipulated under the TSC Act.
The commissioners will help formulate policies and provide strategic leadership to TSC’s secretariat. They will serve a non-renewable six-year full-time term and will not hold other employment.
Remuneration for the roles will be determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission. Candidates must hold a degree from a university recognised in Kenya and have at least 10 years of experience.
Experience should be in areas such as education, governance, management, or law. Applicants must not hold political office or participate in political party structures.
Candidates are required to meet integrity standards and must not have violated public office laws or Chapter Six of the Constitution. Applicants must submit academic and professional documents for consideration.
Shortlisted candidates will need clearance certificates from agencies including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). Applications can be submitted by hand or email.
The deadline for submissions is May 11 at 5pm. This move comes as TSC faces increasing pressure to address challenges in the education sector. These include teacher shortages, pay issues, retirements, and health insurance concerns.
The commission aims to strengthen its leadership and ensure efficient management of Kenya’s teaching workforce. Appointments will play a critical role in shaping education policy and operations nationwide.
