Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of shortchanging Akorino faithful who attended a State House thanksgiving service on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Speaking during a church service in Kajiado County, Gachagua alleged that attendees had been promised KSh 10,000 each but were instead given KSh 3,000 upon arrival. He claimed the money was distributed in sealed envelopes at the State House gate, with instructions not to open them immediately.

According to Gachagua, one attendee later raised concerns after discovering the lower amount, citing expenses such as transport and meals. He said the group incurred losses despite attending the event in good faith.

Gachagua urged communities to exercise caution when accepting invitations to political or State functions without clear compensation agreements.

However, President Ruto dismissed the claims, accusing Gachagua of spreading misinformation. He defended his administration and questioned Gachagua’s authority over individuals attending national events, insisting his focus remains on national unity and preparations for the 2027 General Election.

The remarks highlight escalating tensions between the two former allies, who have recently taken opposing political positions.

Separately, former President Uhuru Kenyatta has been linked to emerging political realignments in the Mt Kenya region, fuelling speculation ahead of the 2027 polls.

During the same State House event, Akorino leader and content creator Karangu Muraya claimed that the Holy Spirit had revealed President Ruto would serve two terms, remarks that drew mixed reactions online.

The incident has intensified debate over political messaging, the role of religion in State functions, and transparency in public engagements as the country approaches the next election cycle.
