A four-year-old girl in Nakuru keeps asking when her mother will return, unaware that 29-year-old Anita Mugweru was killed in an alleged domestic attack involving her husband, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer.
Family members say the child witnessed the incident at their home after an argument between the couple escalated into violence. Too young to understand what happened, she believes her mother is still in hospital and keeps asking when she can go see her.
Relatives describe Anita as the backbone of the family, supporting both her household and extended relatives. Her sudden death has left a deep emotional gap and exposed serious financial struggles.
Her mother is reportedly unwell, while her siblings lack stable income, making the situation even more difficult as the family prepares for her burial.
Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has since offered financial support and visited the family, spending time with the young girl in an effort to comfort her.
Witnesses claim the couple had frequent disputes, reportedly linked to allegations of infidelity. On the day of the incident, the argument turned fatal.
Authorities have launched investigations into the case.
The family now faces the challenge of moving forward while caring for a child still waiting for answers about a mother who will not return.
