Tensions surrounding the family of the late Johana Ngeno have taken a new turn after his mother, Mary, visited Dikirr Police Station on Tuesday seeking the release of her grandson, Peter Rotich, who was arrested over allegations of trespass.
According to police reports, Rotich was taken into custody on Monday evening following a complaint filed by Ngeno’s widow, who accused him of unlawfully entering her home in Mogondo without permission.
Authorities confirmed that the arrest was carried out after formal reporting of the alleged incident.
The matter is said to stem from ongoing family disagreements that have been playing out in public following the death of Johana Ngeno.
Sources indicate that tensions had been building after the widow reportedly sent Rotich a warning message weeks earlier, cautioning him against accessing her compound.
The warning is alleged to have come after Rotich aligned himself politically with the Democratic Change Party (DCP) and publicly associated with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Family members familiar with the situation further claim that the incident leading to his arrest occurred shortly after Rotich accompanied a group of artists who had visited Ngeno’s gravesite during a commemoration event held in Bomet County over the weekend.
It is alleged that he later proceeded to receive the visitors at the homestead in the absence of a senior family representative.
Police have stated that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged trespass and any underlying family disputes contributing to the matter.
Mary Ngeno’s visit to the police station reflects growing concern within the family as they seek clarity on the detention of her grandson.
Authorities have urged all parties to remain calm as the legal process continues.
The case remains under active investigation, with further police action expected once inquiries are concluded.
