Police at Moi International Airport on Sunday carried out a controlled detonation of a suspicious unattended bag. The bag, found at the terminal, triggered a brief panic among passengers. Bomb experts were immediately called to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
Authorities later discovered that the bag contained various tools, including spanners, pliers, and a pressure pump used for inflating vehicle tyres. Investigators suspect that the bag may have been accidentally dropped by a passenger. Police confirmed that the incident remains under investigation.
Airport Sub-County Police Commander Evans Mose said the situation was under control after the earlier drama. The suspicious bag prompted an immediate evacuation of the affected area. A bomb disposal squad was deployed to examine the item.
The team used specialised security protocols to inspect the object, which had been left near the VIP lounge in the car park. Mose emphasised that officers took all necessary precautions to ensure passengers and staff remained safe during the operation.
The bomb squad used professional techniques to detonate the bag safely. The scene was temporarily sealed off during the procedure. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Police urged all passengers to remain vigilant while at the airport. They reminded travelers to attend to their luggage at all times and report any suspicious activity or persons to authorities.
The swift response by the security team ensured minimal disruption. Passengers were allowed to resume their activities shortly after the situation was resolved. Authorities continue to monitor the airport to prevent similar incidents and maintain safety.
