The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast a reduction in rainfall intensity across Nairobi and surrounding counties starting Tuesday, March 10.
KMD said moderate to heavy showers will continue, but the heaviest rainfall will ease after Monday, March 9.
Officials warned that flooding remains likely due to soils already saturated by persistent rains since February.
In Nairobi City County, widespread showers will affect the region Sunday night and Monday, March 9.
Heavier rainfall is expected in Embakasi South, Kibra, Makadara, Kamukunji, Roysambu, Westlands, Dagoretti, and Kasarani, mostly in the afternoons and evenings.
Kiambu County will also experience showers, particularly in Gatundu, Thika, Juja, Ruiru, Limuru, Kikuyu, Kabete, and Githunguri.
Kajiado County will see rainfall across the north, west, and central regions, while Machakos County expects showers in Kathiani, Machakos Town, Yatta, and northern areas.
Authorities warned that prolonged wet conditions increase the likelihood of waterlogging, flash floods, and drainage overflows, especially in low-lying areas.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and exercise caution while driving or walking in affected areas.
Meteorologists advised communities near rivers, streams, and drainage channels to stay alert, as flash floods could occur suddenly.
Officials encouraged residents to follow official KMD updates and heed safety instructions.
The Meteorological Department will continue monitoring rainfall patterns and issue timely alerts if conditions worsen.
Despite the anticipated easing of rainfall intensity from Tuesday, March 10, high flood risks will persist until soils dry fully.
Authorities urged preparedness across Nairobi and neighbouring counties to prevent damage, loss of life, and disruptions caused by the heavy rains.
