Man Fatally Shots His Wife After Reportedly Asking Him to Help Clean Their House

A Kentucky man allegedly shot and killed his wife after an argument over household chores escalated into violence. Patrick Brents, 57, is accused of fatally shooting Carolyn Ross in their Louisville home on March 14, according to WLKY.

Authorities reported that the couple were arguing about cleaning the house in preparation for a trip when the disagreement reportedly intensified. Court records obtained by WDRB indicate that the argument expanded to include family matters. Brents allegedly went to the bedroom to retrieve a firearm before returning to confront his wife.

Another person in the home, reportedly the couple’s son, stated that Ross begged Brents not to shoot her. According to police, Brents allegedly responded, “What are you going to do about it?” before the gun discharged, striking Ross in the abdomen.

The son ran outside to alert another family member, who called 911. Louisville Metro Police responded to the scene around 4 p.m. and found Brents still inside the home. Ross was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Brents has been charged with first-degree assault domestic violence, according to jail records obtained by the Daily Mail. He reportedly told investigators that he had intended to leave the house with the gun but claimed it discharged accidentally. He is being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

In a heartfelt statement to WLKY, Ross’s daughter described her mother as a loving woman who dedicated her life to her family and community.

“Always the mother walking through school hallways and events… she owned her own daycare and helped take care of others,” she said. “She has made a big impact on this city by caring for so many people.”

Louisville Metro Police’s Homicide and Domestic Violence units continue to investigate the case. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation unfolds.
