Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju is receiving medical attention at Karen Police Station after being detained following his sudden reappearance.
Tuju, who had been missing for over 36 hours, addressed the media before police reportedly arrested him immediately, placing him in a police vehicle despite appearing weak and unwell. His lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, expressed concerns over his health at the time of arrest.
Police have maintained that Tuju needed to record a statement, and doctors from Karen Hospital were called to attend to him at the station.
Sources indicate he has not been released, with authorities citing “orders from above” for his continued detention.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka confirmed the arrest, criticizing the handling of the situation. He revealed that he had personally driven Tuju to Karen Police Station in good faith to ensure cooperation with authorities.
Kalonzo condemned the rough treatment Tuju reportedly received, describing it as inhumane given his condition.
The incident has sparked national debate over the legality and fairness of Tuju’s detention.
Many Kenyans are demanding clarity on the reasons behind the prolonged holding and the source of the “orders from above,” highlighting concerns about human rights and proper legal procedures.
