Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has cut ties with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying she will seek re-election through a different political vehicle in 2027.

The legislator announced the decision on Thursday, October 8, after consultations with voters, community leaders, church officials and other leaders from her constituency.

Wamuchomba Rejects UDA Ticket

Wamuchomba said she would neither defend her Githunguri seat nor campaign for another position through UDA, signalling a clear break from the ruling party.
She said her decision had been influenced by what she described as a lack of respect and accountability within sections of the party leadership.
According to the MP, concerns raised over remarks attributed to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale had not received the response she expected from the party.
She also criticised what she described as selective handling of disciplinary issues involving senior figures within the administration.

New Political Vehicle Expected

Although Wamuchomba has confirmed that she will leave UDA, the party she intends to join has not yet been named.
She said her next political vehicle would be announced after further consultations, with the views of her constituents expected to influence the decision.
The move comes after the MP had previously indicated that she could leave UDA over remarks by some allies of President William Ruto that she considered inflammatory.
Her latest announcement therefore formalises a break that had been threatened earlier, while leaving her 2027 political alignment open.

Focus Shifts to 2027 Contest

Wamuchomba is expected to use the period ahead to consult widely before settling on the political platform through which her second-term bid will be mounted.
She said she would continue speaking about issues raised by Kenyans and would not remain silent on matters affecting her constituents.
Her departure adds to recent political movements involving leaders from the Mt Kenya region, although each politician has announced a different political direction.
For Wamuchomba, the immediate focus will now be on identifying a party capable of supporting her return to Parliament while reflecting the position of her electorate.
