DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has challenged Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin to visit his Wamunyoro residence if he wants a statement regarding information he allegedly received about the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso.
Speaking in Kiambu on Friday, August 7, Gachagua rejected claims by the DCI that he had communicated with one of the suspects arrested in connection with the killing.
Gachagua Rejects Contact Allegations
The former Deputy President said he was willing to record a statement explaining how he obtained information about the investigation. However, he insisted that he would not present himself at DCI headquarters.
“I was in Wamunyoro, and if you think someone called me, why don't you come to my home and I will write a statement because I cannot come to you. I am above the level of DCI and the police,” Gachagua said.
He argued that investigators were attempting to link him to the case because he had disclosed information that he claimed could only have come from police sources.
Claims of Leaks Within Police Service
Gachagua accused Amin of avoiding the issue of alleged information leaks from within the police service.
“You are saying that the suspects spoke to Riggy Gee because you do not want to admit that police officers are the ones giving information to Kenyans and leaders. You have lost the civil service,” he said.
The DCP leader also claimed that he possessed a dossier containing the names of police officers allegedly involved in an attack on worshippers at Witima Church, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim.
DCI Says Gachagua Communicated With Suspects
Earlier on Friday, Amin told journalists that investigators had established that Gachagua had been in communication with one of the principal suspects in the Dr Mutiso murder investigation.
The DCI boss further alleged that Gachagua had also communicated with a boda boda rider whom detectives believe ferried a suspect to the crime scene.
“Unfortunately, what came out very clearly is that Hon Rigathi Gachagua was in communication with one of our main suspects in this matter who was feeding him with information. Apparently, he also appears to have been in communication with the boda boda rider,” Amin said.
Amin argued that if Gachagua intended to assist the investigation, he should have shared the information directly with investigators instead of discussing it publicly.
Police Officers Named in Investigation
The DCI has already announced the arrest of Police Constable Elijah Kibelion Kemboi, whom investigators identify as the officer who allegedly shot Dr Mutiso.
Amin also named Nderi Police Post OCS Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang as the officer suspected of sourcing the firearm allegedly used in the killing.
Detectives have additionally arrested a boda boda rider who they say was present at the crime scene. Investigators are also pursuing Daniel Mwangi Njoroge and Kelvin Ngugi Kinuthia, whom they allege helped organise the operation that led to Dr Mutiso's death.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no court has yet determined the guilt of the suspects mentioned by the DCI.
